Yarra River Spraying.jpg

Client: Melbourne Water

Duration: 1998 - Present

Project - Vic Desal: Headliner

The Yarra River is Melbourne's longest and most significant waterway, spanning from Mount Baw Baw downstream for approximately 240km to Port Phillip Bay. ID Ecological Management has been engaged in undertaking weed management and monitoring of the middle-reach of the Yarra River from Lower Homestead Road (Wonga Park) downstream to Warrandyte Bridge (Warrandyte) (approximately 19km). This reach has been managed for the protection and enhancement of Ecological Vegetation Communities adjacent to the Yarra River, with the ultimate aim to enhance the river’s overall ecological quality and function.

Activities undertaken during this project include:

  • Undertaking various bush regeneration/restoration methods (e.g. weed control and planting) via foot and canoe.

  • Building productive relationships with landowners and other relevant stakeholders.

  • Conducting ecological field surveys/data collection, collation and analysis.

Project highlights:

  • White-bellied Sea Eagle and Platypus sightings.

  • Long term management and resulting substantial gains in weed reduction and site quality.
